The Beijing airport is amazing!!! The entire complex dwarfs anything I have seen. The main terminal is the largest space I have ever been in. The building, as you approach it from the outside, looks like a huge undulating mound. There are triangular clerestory windows each raised at one corner so that they look like the scales of a dragon and thus the entire building looks like the back of a huge sleeping dragon (get the analogy?). Inside the ceiling is many stories high and undulates following the roof. (Bottom photo) There is a strange silence inside especially for a transportation hub filled with hordes of people. Bird sounds play ever so faintly in the background. But the silence. . . .

When the Olympics start I am sure there will be several articles about the terminal in the media in the States.

The upper photo is the area you pass through to get to the parking area. It too is something to experience. There are huge outlying terminals as well but of a very different design. They are the actual departure and arrival areas for the planes.
